Present day

This Empire building was used by the Count’s family until 1945, when all of their property was confiscated by the state on the basis of the Beneš Decrees. The castle was looted at the end of World War II. Between 1951 and 1957 , the entire site became home to the „Greek children“, who left Greece as a result of the local civil war (1948-1955). In 1958, the chateau became the seat of the Secondary Agricultural and Technical School, and remained so for 40 years.

At present, the chateau is the property of the Institute of Microbiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic It is home to the Research Center of Nanobiology and Structural Biology (CNSB) , which includes a conference center with accommodation.

Research Center of Nanobiology and Structural Biology (CNSB)

In 2002, laboratories and an educational center were established. The Center of Nanobiology and Structural Biology was established on January 1, 2011 and is a research unit of the Institute of Microbiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Research is being carried out on structural and systemic biology at the level of molecules, cells, tissues and the organism as a whole. Methods of bioinformatics, molecular biology, microscopy, molecular modeling and methodology of protein structure determination, especially protein crystallography, were successfully introduced.

CNSB works closely with the Faculty of Science of the University of South Bohemia and regularly hosts researchers from abroad, as well as participants from international programs – courses, workshops, conferences and symposia. Despite its short existence, the CNSB research groups have achieved excellent scientific results and have published in well-known journals such as Nature, Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, Nature Methods, etc.
